DNA Testing - Reduced Rates for Members

With over 33,000 individuals tested, and more that 1,700 Surname projects, Family Tree DNA, the large provider of Genetic Genealogy, has created a program with the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society to further increase the adoption of DNA testing for genealogical purposes, at the same time that it brings in more revenues to our society.

This partnership program has several objectives:

 a) provide reduced rates for our members to test their DNA for genealogy purposes

 b) provide additional revenue for our Society without costing more to our members

 c) add a substantial incentive for new members to join our Society

To accomplish this, Family Tree DNA is offering group rates to any member of the Society, whether they have a Surname Project for the member's last name or not. The difference between Group and non-Group rates is $60.


A brief explanation of which tests you should order

Your maternal line will give you information on your mother's line.  By testing the mtDNA that you receive from your mother (males and females carry the mtDNA), you'll check for your ancestry on that straight maternal line (including deep ethnical origins like Native American). No male influence through marriage.

Your paternal line will give you information on your father's line.  By testing the Y-DNA that you receive from your father (only males  carry the Y-DNA), you'll check for your ancestry on that straight paternal line (including deep ethnical origins like Native American). No female influence through marriage. Here, you have the option of 12, 25 or 37 markers. The more markers you test, the tighter the connection between 2 individuals, in case of a match or close match.
