Vital Records:
Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church

San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo, California

Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church began it's existence in San Luis Obispo County in 1867, it has a long and meaningful history with the local community. As a Member of this Church, Lynn Wiech had the opportunity to record some of the Vital Records of the Church. These records were gleaned from the Church Record Books. She abstracted the family information and recorded it on 5 x 7 Index Cards. This work was accomplished some 25 years ago. The Index cards are long gone, but the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society copied all the cards onto oversize paper which was then loosely bound and held together with metal rings. There were 4 or 5 Sections ~ The Volumes have been destroyed as they were stored for a few years in a shipping container which leaked, they became moldy. When we moved to the present location, they had to be pitched as the mold would have infected the Public Library holdings. We do not know the condition or availability of the original Church Records.

Michele McCaffrey and Marilyn Johnson created an Index.

When I began Volunteering at the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Library and discovered the abstracted vital records, I wanted to make sure that these Volumes were somehow preserved. The pages were to big to scan on a conventional scanner so a digital camera was used to photograph them. That did not work out well, so I purchased a scanner that would scan legal sized documents.

This link is to a document that explains the abbreviations.

This is the Link to the Index which is a fully searchable pdf file.

All of the scanned images can be found here in Alpha Folders.

They may be saved and copied for your personal use, but are not to be published.
